History

From a family history lasting almost a hundred years, a pasta that expresses craftsmanship, tradition and the proud identity of Appulo Lucana. A unique product. From the very beginning Since 1924, when Eustachio Porreca, administrator of the land properties of one of the most important noble families in Southern Italy, managed large expanses of arable fields, first in San Ferdinando di Puglia and then in Genzano di Lucania, few kilometers far from the Monteserico castle. Thanks to that same dedication to work, it was born a pasta produced with ancient durum wheat seeds, extruded through bronze matrices and respectful of nature, with skills and raw materials at zero km.

The territory

Pasta Porreca is daughter of a millenary land once under the aegis of Emperor Frederick II of Swabia, known everywhere as Stupor Mundi and Puer Apuliae, now on the border between the Lucanian tradition (internationally recognized also for Matera, European Culture Capital 2019) and the Apulian vocation to new trends and also one of the most popular Italian regions in last years appreciated by tourists from all over the world. Its wheat comes from the bradanic lucanian valleys and from the rolling hills of apulian Murgia. It is an enchanted place, overlooked by lesser kestrel falcons, from which you can look into an uncontaminated landscape rich in history and traditions.

Monteserico

Pasta Porreca is a part of “Monteserico” business group, named in honor of the castle, an outpost of this frontier land. Imposing, solid and solitary stone sentinel, which has stood out since the Middle Ages on a relief of fifteen kilometers east of Genzano di Lucania. Once a fortress of the village of Monteserico, which disappeared in the 15th century. All around, the dense woods crossed by Lombards first and Normans then, have become fields of wheat and green meadows. It is a solitary place, but perfectly integrated and functional to the territories of Puglia and Lucania, connected to the nearby fortress of the Gargagnone by the lighting of torches to signal enemies’ approach. From these deep roots it was born the partners’ starting idea, united by the desire to safeguard, enhance and promote ancient Italian crops.
